A Perfect Bahamian Wedding Menu

By Sue Lawrence, Director Of Special Events at Luciano’s of Chicago, Nassau NP The Bahamas

You’re engaged! The dress you have dreamed of has been selected, your best friends have the honour of being a part of your bridal party and the décor details all decided on. Now that pesky decision which is usually the last to be made: Where will I have my wedding reception and how does it reflect my personality and the experience I want me and my guests to remember?
We are thrilled that you have selected Luciano’s of Chicago Restaurant in sunny Nassau, Bahamas as your reception venue. Luciano’s is housed in an old family home right on the waterfront in the City of Nassau overlooking Paradise Island and the Atlantis Resort. You have selected Luciano’s because of its fabulous waterfront view; proximity to the Cruise Ship Port and all that Paradise Island has to offer in terms of hotels and entertainment but, mostly, for its reputation for providing fantastic food and service.

Destination brides and locals alike want to showcase elements of Bahamian cuisine in their menus and although Luciano’s is primarily an Italian restaurant, the best that The Bahamas has to offer can be found in our menus.
Most brides still want the formal wedding to include all of the well-known wedding traditions. After all, how many times will you get to be the princess and the star of the show? If this is your vision of the perfect reception, we suggest a cocktail period to keep your guests fed and entertained while you complete your wedding photographs followed up by a fabulous plated menu!

For cocktails, how about offering a tropical Welcome Drink such as a Goombay Smash or Sky Juice? These drinks shout “ISLAND” to your guests and get the good times rolling. Butler Passed Appetizers set the tone for the island-themed dinner to follow and can include Miniature Crab Cakes with Spicy Island Aioli, Coconut Crusted Cracked Lobster Bites with Calypso Sauce, Mushrooms stuffed with Italian Sausage, Garlic and a touch of Red Pepper and Toasted Ravioli with Pomodoro and Four Cheese Dipping Sauces.

For a dinner menu that celebrates your marriage in the beautiful Bahamas but also includes the elegance and formality you are seeking, a plated menu is the way to go. To get started, how about a rich and creamy Roasted Corn and Conch Chowder? Conch is the one dietary item no “True True Bahamian” can live without! Follow with a refreshing salad of Mixed Greens and Arugula, Slow Roasted Red and Yellow Beets, Sweet and Spicy Walnuts and Gorgonzola Crumbles lightly dressed with Balsamic Vinaigrette. For the Entrée course, a choice of Pan Seared Nassau Grouper with Honey Habanero Mojo or Cracked Pepper and Allspice Crusted Filet Mignon with Rum and Coke Reduction. You have some Vegetarian Guests? Luciano’s can offer an island themed pasta such as Pumpkin Ravioli with Roasted Butternut Squash napped with Sage Cream Sauce. Finish off this glorious feast with a final taste of the Islands and Luciano’s signature dessert; Chocolate Rum Raisin Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce and Rum Raisin Ice Cream – warm, gooey and utterly decadent!

You and your guests are absolutely sated with that wonderful meal. It’s now time to work off the food and get the party rolling by dancing the night away under the starry skies of the Beautiful Bahamas. What a great night in Paradise!
